Gas cooking equipment is unforgiving when it leaks or lights late. The homeowner job is to notice odor or delayed ignition and stop. The technician job is to find the path. This article will not walk you through tightening fittings.
If you smell gas, extinguish open flames, ventilate, and do not operate electrical switches unnecessarily. Do not keep clicking a burner. Do not use the oven.
Delayed ignition — a pause, then a puff of flame — is also a stop-use symptom. It can scorch the cooktop and is not “just a dirty cap” until someone competent says so after looking at it.
